RM100R Mirror(50GENK60) – User Guide / Installation Instructions

[Please direct all operational or troubleshooting questions to our MITO Customer Service Dept toll-free 1-800-433-6486]

Application:

The following instructions are for the NVS mirror with Pathpoint Compass, outside temperature, map light and Homelink technology. These instructions have been prepared for installing the 50GENK60 technology mirror in the Chevrolet Corvette model years 1997-2000.

Technology Overview:

Compass The mirror’s compass display uses a self-calibrating Magneto-Inductive technology compass that eliminates manual calibration. The electronic compass shows the direction you are heading in an easy to read digital display located in the mirror glass. The compass is an extremely accurate computer that displays vehicle headings of N, NW, W, SW, S, SE, E and NE.

Outside Temperature Display The outside temperature display provides you with a digital temperature reading. The display will indicate “ICE” when the temperature is below 37 degrees which cautions you to anticipate road-icing conditions.

Night Vision Safety mirror The NVS mirror is an electro chromic mirror that automatically dims when glare is detected from vehicles traveling behind you. The brighter the glare, the darker the mirror becomes.

Homelink Universal Transceiver The Homelink UT replaces the remote controls that activate your garage door, open your estate gate, unlock your entry door and/or disarm your security system. Homelink memorizes the activation codes for up to three remote control devices.

Installation/ Operation Procedures:

The following steps are covered in the proceeding sections of this user guide

  • Installing new interior mirror
  • Routing of the power harness
  • Routing the temperature harness
  • Calibration, testing and operating instructions

Installation / Operation Procedures (continued)

A. Installing New Interior Mirror :

Removal Procedure :

  1. Disconnect the rearview mirror electrical connector. (Pry up on the retaining clip to allow the connector to pull free).
  2. Loosen the Torx screw that holds the mirror mount to the windshield wedge.
  3. Slide the mirror up off the mirror bracket.[Do not pull rearward on the mirror when removing it or damage to the support or windshield will occur]

Installation Procedure:

  1. Slide the new mirror down onto the bracket. {Carefully Rock the mirror side to side while pushing downward firmly}. Use a Torx screwdriver to tighten the locking screw through hole in center of compass pod below mirror mount. (Note: If you have trouble accessing the screw, you can remove the plastic cover on the compass pod thus gaining better access to this screw. This cover snaps on and off.)

B. Routing of the Power Harness :

To install the new power harness, it will be necessary to temporarily remove a portion of the garnish molding around the windshield that will also require removal of the passenger side sunshade. Refer to the following steps:

  • Remove the passenger side sunshade (Use care in this procedure to avoid damage to the plastic parts of the sunshade ie. rod, bezels, garnish moldings, etc.
  • To remove the passenger side sunshade, tilt the sunshade down toward the windshield.
  • Insert the blade of a screwdriver in the slot on the plastic bezel at the end of the rod (Install protective sleeve on this rod) protruding from the sunshade into the roof area. Now rotate the sunshade toward the side window. The placement of the screwdriver will cause the bezel to rotate when the sunshade turns and presses against it.
  • When the bezel rotates 90 degrees, the sunshade will come free from the roof housing. Expose the electrical wiring connector (This is located 2-3” from the end of the rod.) Disconnect the connector to free the sunshade.
  • With the sunshade removed, grasp the upper garnish molding and pull the molding from the windshield frame enough to allow the new harness to be installed. (Note the garnish molding is held in place with four friction clips which will release when force is applied to the molding)
  • Remove the window side garnish molding in the same manner as you did the upper garnish molding. (in this case you will want to remove it completely).
  • Plug in the harness connector to its mirror counterpart.
  • Route the new harness along side the existing factory wiring harness tucking the harness up under the edge of the upper garnish molding and down along the windshield frame on the passenger side.
  • Continue to route the wiring harness down toward the floor of the car and over to the area of the fuse relay block I/P. (Note: it will be necessary to remove the carpeted floor panel and under-dash panel to gain easy access to this area.)
  • Locate the General Motors 3-wire aftermarket pigtail connector. (Look in the area below the HVAC fan motor where the large wiring harness is located to find this GM electrical connection point.) Plug in the harness connector to the GM connector after removing the 3-wire pigtail unit provided by GM. (Save this connector and return to C5 Creations in exchange for the pre-wired connector /harness supplied)

C. Routing of the Temperature Harness

  • Open the Hood of the Car
  • Locate the temperature sensor portion of your harness and lay it out with the 2-pin connector toward the firewall. Pass this connector through the firewall grommet, located below the battery box, to just inside the passenger compartment. (Note: it will be necessary to remove the battery to gain easy access to this area of the firewall. It will also be easier to pass the harness thru the grommet using a rigid wire lead [like a coat hanger wire]).
  • Route the rest of the harness towards the front of the car to an area in front of the radiator. (Note: take care to route away from hot engine components i.e. exhaust, headers, etc.). Use tie wraps to secure the wiring harness.
  • Locate the temperature probe in the cutout area of the frame just below the radiator mount. Secure the probe using the U-clip portion of the probe mount.

D. Testing, Calibration and Operation

  • Turn the ignition switch to ON
  • Refer to the HANG TAGS for operating features, testing and calibration instructions for
    • Self-dimming mirror features
    • Homelink programming instructions
    • Compass calibration and features
    • Outside temperature display feature
